A Sudanese mediation effort chaired by Transitional Sovereignty Council Vice President, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo has succeeded in gathering and reconciling all South Sudanese parties and agreeing on the supreme security leadership structure in South Sudan.
The mediation effort was held as part of security arrangements implemented under the Revitalized Peace Agreement.
Representatives of the government and opposition, South Sudanese Vice President Dr. Riek Machar and Hussein Abd Al-Bagi, signed the agreement in the Presidential Palace in Juba.
South Sudanese Presidential Advisor Tut Galwak signed the agreement on behalf of the South Sudanese government, Martin Abuja signed on behalf of the SPLM, Khalid Botros signed on behalf of the Sawa Movement, and Acting Defense Minister Yasin Ibrahim signed on behalf of the Sudanese government.
The ceremony was attended by South Sudanese President, General Silva Kiir Mayardit and Dagalo, who chairs the committee for monitoring the implementation of peace agreement, as well as other Sudanese and South Sudanese stakeholders representing all political camps.
Galwak expressed the South Sudanese government’s appreciation for Dagalo’s support and his seminal role in driving forward the peace process.
“People were very worried, but the parties were able to unite and integrate the military leaderships,” he said. “Peace and stability are of the utmost importance to protect the people and the country.”
Meanwhile, Ibrahim said the parties agreed on all the suggestions proposed by Sudan and underscored that the agreement covers all text and articles of the peace agreement.
He added that the agreement includes a strategic road map and implementation timeline.
