The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) strongly condemn the heinous crime committed on Thursday by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) operating under the so-called terrorist Islamic Movement, by targeting a relief convoy that was on its way from Zalingei to the city of El Fasher in North Darfur, before it was bombed by a Turkish-made "Akinci" drone, resulting in the tragic martyrdom of dozens and the injury of innocent civilians.
The continued, systematic targeting of humanitarian convoys constitutes a full-fledged war crime and reflects the terrorist practices carried out by the SAF under the control of the Brotherhood’s extremist groups in Sudan, by obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid and repeatedly attacking international organizations operating in the region that coincided with the visit of the United Nations Under-Secretary-General, Mr. Tom Fletcher to Darfur.
This attack is not the first of its kind, as the army has previously targeted several humanitarian aid convoys in June and August in a deliberate approach to target humanitarian convoys and obstruct humanitarian operations, and deepen the suffering of civilians by preventing aid from reaching those in desperate need.
In this regard, we call on the international community and humanitarian and human rights organizations to:
• Issue a clear and unequivocal condemnation of this criminal attack.
• Launch an urgent and transparent investigation to hold accountable those responsible for targeting humanitarian convoys.
• Take immediate and decisive action to pressure the terrorist army to cease its attacks against humanitarian workers.
•
The silence of the international community in the face of these crimes only encourages the perpetrators to continue killing innocent civilians and poses a serious threat to all humanitarian efforts aimed at rescuing lives and alleviating the suffering of civilians.
