MEDIA STATEMENT
Clarification regarding the statements of the World Health Organization Director-General
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have closely followed the biased statements issued by the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, regarding alleged attacks on healthcare facilities in Sudan since last January, including claims that more than 1,600 people were killed during alleged attacks on “healthcare” facilities during that period.
These statistics and allegations raise serious questions regarding their accuracy and sources. In this regard, we wish to emphasize that the majority of circulated reports and information are based on allegations issued by entities and networks that claim to belong to the health sector, while in reality they act as fronts with political and security affiliations, including links to intelligence bodies and offices associated with the army of the Muslim Brotherhood group, designated as terrorist which negatively affects the neutrality and professionalism of such reports.
We also reaffirm the full commitment of our forces to protect healthcare facilities and ensure the safety of medical personnel. This commitment is reflected in the ongoing efforts exerted by the Ministry of Health within the Government of Peace in Darfur to maintain and develop healthcare services despite the exceptional circumstances.
Based on our keenness to support humanitarian work and strengthen cooperation with international institutions, we call on the World Health Organization and all international partners to adhere to the highest standards of neutrality and objectivity, to expand the scope of field verification, and to consult with all relevant stakeholders, in a way that contributes to the protection of civilians and the support of the healthcare system in Sudan.
