The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) strongly condemn the horrific crime committed by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) that operates under the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood against defenseless civilians, in yet another deliberate and systematic attack targeting innocent citizens on the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, as they gathered to collect drinking water from a source known as “Al-Dawanki” in the village of Um Rusum, West Kordofan State, which resulted in dozens of fatalities, including women and children.
The RSF hold the terrorist army fully and directly responsible for this massacre and call upon the international community and human rights organizations to recognize the systematic and recurring nature of these atrocities, carried out using military killing machinery against areas devoid of any armed presence. Such acts constitute clear war crimes and crimes against humanity under international humanitarian law.
Our forces affirm that targeting civilians and their essential sources of life, foremost among them access to drinking water represents a blatant violation of all international norms and legal frameworks and constitutes a crime that is not subject to any statute of limitations. We further call for an independent and urgent international investigation to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice and that effective deterrent measures are implemented to protect civilians in conflict-affected areas.
The RSF reaffirms its commitment to protect civilians and defend their fundamental right to life and security. We call upon all national forces and individuals of conscience to unite to stop the systematic killing and bring an end to impunity.
