MEDIA STATEMENT
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) strongly condemns the threats, media censorship, and harassment faced by journalists and media professionals at the hands of security agencies associated with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and its backers linked to the former regime in various states across Sudan.
Journalists and media professionals in states such as Al-Jazeera, Red Sea, and Al-Gadarif are continuously subjected to threats by the SAF General Intelligence Service and related intelligence agencies. These individuals are prevented from carrying out their crucial role in shedding light on the dire humanitarian conditions endured by Sudanese citizens who have sought refuge in these states and are deprived of basic services.
A number of journalists have been subjected to threats of arrest or dismissal from their jobs. Others have faced the alarming prospect of physical harm.
These actions represent a clear violation of international laws and norms that recognize freedom of expression as a fundamental human right.
The RSF expresses its solidarity with journalists and media professionals, and emphasizes their right to carry out their legitimate duties.
We call on all regional and international organizations to condemn these acts of oppression. The RSF affirms that the Sudanese people will not allow the former regime to suppress their will.
