RSF Negotiation Team Meets African Union High-Level Panel on Sudan
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) negotiation team met on Monday with the African Union (AU) High-Level Panel on Sudan in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The panel, chaired by AU High Representative for Silencing the Guns Mohamed Ibn Chambas, includes eminent figures such as Speciosa Wandira-Kazibwe, former vice president of Uganda, and Francisco Madeira, former special representative of the chairperson of the AU Commission for Somalia. AU Representative to Sudan, Ambassador Mohamed Belaish and IGAD Special Envoy to Sudan Lawrence Corbandi were also in attendance.
The meeting at the AU headquarters focused on current developments in Sudan, particularly the humanitarian situation, the events in El Fasher, and efforts to end the ongoing conflict and establish peace and stability.
The RSF delegation expressed their readiness to cooperate in delivering humanitarian aid to all affected individuals in Sudan, aiming to alleviate the people's suffering.
Regarding El Fasher, the RSF blamed the escalation on armed groups that abandoned neutrality, joined the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), and attempted to provoke a civil war in Darfur in line with the former regime's plans to prolong the war and recapture power in Sudan.
The RSF emphasized the need to ensure the conflict is Sudan's last and to rebuild the state on just foundations that address grievances and achieve lasting peace and stability.
The RSF praised the AU's efforts in supporting peace in Sudan and called for the unification of various peace initiatives.
The RSF negotiation team included Maulana Muhammad Mukhtar, Ezzaddean Elsafi, and Nazar Sid Ahmed.
